Sunless tanning

In a time when we are aware of the dangers and damage that sunbathing can cause, more people are using bronzers and fake tans.

How Self-Tan Works

Self-tanning occurs in the top layers of your skin called the Epidermis. The Epidermis is also made up of layers. The Stratum Corneum) is the layer affected by self-tan products.

Self-Tan products contain the naturally derived, premium-tanning agents DHA,Erythrulose and DMI.

DHA (Dihydroxyacetone)

Although DHA has been used in self-tans since the 1970’s, it wasn’t until the late 1980’s that cosmetic companies found a way to produce better results (browner, less orange) with DHA. This is attributed to an improved refining process yielding higher quality, more predictable DHA.

The DHA within all self-tans. Interacts with the amino acid – Keratin (more commonly known as ‘dead’ or ‘cornified’ skin cells) that lie in the top layers of your skin

This tan develops rapidly, but is also temporary and fades as your skin cells are worn away.  As with all applications preparation of your skin, prior to application is vital to the success of your tan.

To prolong a tan we recommend home care moisturies from the tanning companies we stock , this will ensure that your tan last longer and fades perfectly evenly for a continuously natural appearance.

Cosmetic Guide Color

Many Self-Tans also contain a cosmetic guide colour. This assists your application, showing you where you have applied the self-tan. It also gives your skin an instant sun-kissed look. However, this is simply cosmetic and washes off to reveal a gorgeous fake tan.

Fake Bake

A professional self-tan treatment is the most luxurious way to enjoy a Fake Bake application. It consists of an exfoliation and targeted moisturising treatment to prepare your skin. After this your skin is cleansed and the self-tan is applied. It is generally believed that a hands on professional self-tan treatment provides the longest lasting, darkest tanning results because the skin is stimulated throughout and the beauty therapist is trained to ensure the correct amount of product is applied to your skin.
